3 books you should read

I love reading. I always have. So I’m always on the hunt for a book that I’m not only going to love, but one that I can really learn something from. I gotta say, these 3 have been those for me lately. So if you’re looking for a good book to read, I’ve got you covered.

The Actors Life: A Survival Guide by Jenna Fischer

This is now one of the most helpful and inspiring books I’ve ever read. Ever. I’m not exaggerating. This book had answers to so many questions I had, not just about acting. But LA. Classes. Getting a good agent. Literally any questions I had were answered in this book. If you’re curious about what an actor goes through, you should read this. If you’re an actor or an aspiring actor, you should read this. Basically, everyone should read this.

Family dynamics are always interesting. A family dynamic between two film makers who’s work I love? Even more interesting. This book really delves into their relationship and their process of creating. It really gives you the sense of them. One thing I noticed? They are really close. They say they’re like twins with how close they are, but I am a twin and we’re not as close as they are. It’s almost kinda weird, but endearingly weird. And hey – it clearly works for them. After reading this, I kinda feel like I know them, which is insane, because I don’t know them at all. Another thing I realized while reading this was that it’s honestly probably the closest thing to the kind of book I would create. It’s a compilation of stories, excerpts, and letters put together somewhat randomly, but strangely comes together in the end to all make sense. It just feels to me like what goes on in my head all the time, which was a strange feeling. I’ve never had a book feel like me. I really liked that they were so open and upfront about their process and the process of big budget film making vs bare bones do it yourself film making. I could really relate to it. Overall, I love that they got all of this success by just by doing it on their own and being themselves. I really dig them because I really love people who are unapologetically themselves. Even if people think it’s weird. I dig it. Maybe that’s because people think I’m weird too, but hey. At least we’re just being ourselves. So if you’re into honest, eccentric and upfront people, you’re really going to like this.

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara

This is the book everyone has been talking about. Especially lately! Spoiler alert – they recently found the guy. It’s wild reading this and seeing who they caught because she really was on to something. She compiled so many stories and so much evidence it’s truly amazing. If you’re into true crime, it’s a great read. Just a warning though – it is about rapes and murders that really happened, so if you can’t handle that… maybe don’t read it. She was a very good writer so… it’s pretty descriptive. It is a great read, so if you can handle it – check it out because she really was an amazing story teller.
